Environmental Compliance Approval
Raw Materials Company is fully permitted under its Ministry of Environment Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) to process the following waste characteristics on site:
- Class 8 materials
- Class 9 materials
This includes materials that contain heavy metals requiring special handling and treatment. RMC utilizes extensive engineering controls including air treatment and state of the art personal protective equipment (PPE). This along with a carefully supervised health and safety program ensure the safety and wellbeing of all of our employees and the safety of our local community.

Raw Materials Company is permitted by the Ministry of the Environment to process solid and liquid wastes including, all battery types, lead bearing wastes (electronics, firing range materials, scrap, wire, coatings etc.), mercury bearing wastes (fluorescent lamps, bulbs, switches, dental amalgams etc).
Raw Materials Company also handles liquid wastes such as elemental mercury and battery electrolytes for recycling.

Zinc is one of the world's most commonly used metals. Approximately 30% of the zinc today comes from recycled sources. Raw Materials Company is able to recover zinc from the batteries that you recycle. The zinc we recover is then reused as micronutrients in fertilizer to grow corn for biofuel.
As a result of RMC's recycled materials, farmers are able to increase their yields by over 20 bushels per acre. This is important considering our growing population and the need to make efficient use of our existing farmland.
